I purchased my ASUS U45J from Amazon 11-24-2010, and basically think the laptop will be great - but there are some serious problems with ASUS software.(1) I also purchased the ASUS Crosslink Plus cable to move files from my Vista PC to the new laptop. It has a flashdrive on the cable that contains the ASUS Crosslink software on it - and as I've documented to ASUS in writing: this software had a VIRUS on it. At the tech's suggestion, I downloaded software from the ASUS site to replace the cable software and the ASUS DOWNLOAD software had a virus on it, too. As of today, 12-13-2010 - ASUS has removed the software from their site and not replaced it.(2) The laptop was FULL of (mostly obsolete) 'utilities' that were basically junk - lots of junk kiddie games, and useless utilities that came with NO documentation. The only way I was able to make any sense of this undocumented junk was to read a blog post at: [...]. The ASUS site has almost no documentation for this junk. When my ASUS 'control panel' didn't work, I went to the ASUS site and downloaded that utility. This TOO HAD A VIRUS. One reputable antivirus firm, PREVX again identified the ASUS file showcontroldeck.exe as malware. I sent documentation & multiple phone calls to ASUS - they haven't responded yet. I know any and all AntiVirus software products can make a false positive. That's why I always triple or quadruple check suspect files with reputable online second opinion sources. In my opinion, ASUS software on their site and on their cable are highly suspect. My laptop is running clean and clear, as far as I can see, after I cleaned off suspect files. ASUS has, I believe, a good laptop.Somone at the Asus site (a corporate saboteur?) is doing Asus a serious injury by letting suspect, obsolete, and junk software on their products, and on their website. I LIKE my laptop, and am prepared to really support ASUS. It's time for ASUS to support it's users, and clean up it's act.
