If you have a newer iMac or MacBook Pro with only USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, then you need this hub / all in one adapter. This handy little 5 in 1 adds some extras like HDMI 4K @ 30Hz port, and SD card reader, plus a USB-A 3.0 port (5 Gbps), a USB-A 2.0 port (480 Mbps), and a power input USB-C to charge your MacBook with up to 100 watts of power.I use the USB 2.0 port for memory sticks or to connect to older USB 2.0 devices (printers, hard drives, etc.). I use the USB-C PD input ports to provide external power to charge the MacBook and provide power to other connected devices (like your iPhone). It can input power up to 100 watts to power other USB devices attached to the hub and the laptop. So you can charge your iPhone, while still syncing it to your computer.Light weight aluminum exterior dissipates any heat from the hub. I tested the USB 3.0 speed and it was able to hit 65-80 MB/sec of my USB-C external hard drive, which was about 75-90% of the speed when directly connected to computer. The USB 2.0 was significantly slower by over 60% slower or around 35 MB/sec.In summary, pros - adds 5 ports from 1 USB-C port. Able to provide USB 3.0 speed to one USB-A port. Allows pass thru charging to other USB devices on the hub to 100 watts. Cons or negatives - all ports are not labeled, so I hand marked with sharpie the labels. It does NOT provide USB-C types of speeds 10 Gbps or the Thunderbolt 4 40 Gbps speeds to pass thru. So overall, it more ports and some very useful functions like HDMI display support and SD and microSD card readers.
